Boyfriend doesn’t trust me

December 03, 2020

Dear Pastor,

I am writing you with pain in my heart. I am from Jamaica, but my boyfriend is from one of the other islands. He loves me so much and he treats me like a queen.

The problem I am having with him is that he does not want me out of his sight and he is very controlling. He does not want me to go anywhere without him.

I know this will surprise you but he is 69 years old. I have everything I need. He has a beautiful home, a car, a helper and everything to make me comfortable in the house.

Sometimes when his friends come to visit him, I know they are talking about me, but I pretend that I do not know. He was married, but his wife died.

I asked him why he doesn't want me to go out alone. He told me that he does not want to lose me. I told him that this is not normal and that he should learn to trust me. He says that he trusts me, but he doesn't trust the other men that I may see on the road. I want to leave him, but my friends told me that I would be foolish to do so. Please give me your opinion.

Initials Withheld

Dear Initials Withheld,

You should be honest with yourself. It is not so much this man who you love. What you love is this man's money. If he should withdraw his money from you, you would leave. However, I am not telling you to do so. It is really up to you. One thing I know for sure is that this man does not fully trust you.
