In love with a man nearly twice my age

November 02, 2022

Dear Pastor,

I am 16 years old and I am in high school. I am doing my best, but my mother thinks I am not doing enough. My mother and my father are not together.

My father left my mother when I was 10 years old. He said he could not deal with her. My father never stopped supporting me. He has other children, but they are boys. I don't hide anything from my father.

When I just turned 16, my father had a party for me. He told me I could invite my friends and I did, including my 20-year-old boyfriend. I introduced him to my father and when my father saw him, he was not impressed. He told me that I should do better. I felt very sad, but now I am with another man. However, I am afraid to introduce him to my father because this man is in his 30s and he swept me off my feet. I did not have sex with the guy my father did not like, but I have had sex with this man. He drops me at school and if he cannot pick me up from school, he sends his driver. Some of my friends are very jealous.

He had a girlfriend, but she is not living in Jamaica, so I go to his house on Saturdays and he cooks for me and we enjoy each other. He has taught me many things. I don't know what I am going to do. I know he will not get me pregnant. He has promised me that. Please don't tell me to leave him, because I will not.

I.W.

Dear I.W.,

Your father wants the best for you. I hope you realise that this man, who is much older, has not given up his woman who lives abroad. You have become his side chick.

One of these days he is going to tell you that his woman is coming back to Jamaica. What will you do, may I ask?

You are 16 years old; you should not allow yourself to be in this situation. Your father is doing his best to support you. You should not get involved with this older man.
