Fun and joy for 2017

Hey, peeps! What a gwaan? 2016 is now over, and we're still here. So let's give thanks that we're alive to see the start of another year.
Yes, friends, we now have a fresh slate and a clean plate, all shiny and new. But tell me, how did 2016 actually climax for you?
How did you mark the transition from the old year to the new? There are many people who spend the time nice and normal - they just go to bed at their regular time and wake up the next morning like they do every other day.
Most people, though, make a big event of it. Some do it in fine style at some extra loud, lavish events with expensive liquor and pretty party favours. And guess what?
The first hours of the new calendar year usually find them with headache, hangover and additional expenses.
Those are the folks who enjoy having a 'merry chaos and a happy new arrears'. Others, me included, spent the last hours of 2016 and the start of 2017 in the house of the Lord experiencing a special kind of joy.
So how about you? Did you have festive fun, real joy or both? And is there a difference?
Well, I found this quotable quote that speaks to the difference. It says: "There's a difference between joy and fun.
Joy is a gift from God, something you feel no matter what your circumstances. Joy is from within, and you can't feel joy if you don't have peace of mind.
Fun is something you have when you are dancing or joking around just having a good time. The fun ends when the music stops and the people leave.
"Joy is what you are left with after they're gone and you are alone.
"Joy is a state of mind. Fun is a state in time. Joy lives on inside of you after the music dies and the fun stops."
Deep, eh? I saw it on the Facebook page of my friend Pastor Winston 'Bello' Bell, who borrowed it from his friend Peaches Joy.
It struck me because I usually have fun teasing Bello with that line from Psalm 30 Verse 5 which says: "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning".
And it always sweet him, because his wife's first name is Joy. I wish you fun and joy for 2017!
