Ding Dong happy people are dancing again

Dancer turned artiste Ding Dong says he is in a happy place as he believes he has accomplished the main thing he had set out to do as an entertainer to make people genuinely love dancing again.

The entertainer in an interview with THE WEEKED STAR said he has accomplished most of what he set out to do in his career, but is most proud of what the dance space in Jamaica has become in recent years.

The leader of the Ravers Clavers dance group, the crew responsible for dances moves such as 'Lebeh Lebeh', 'Genna Bounce', 'Flairy', 'Gas' and the popular 'Fling', explained that after the death of his icon, Bogle, he set out to get people moving again, and is happy that after putting in the work, dancing finally has its spot back at the helm of the entertainment industry.

"I think I have brought it (dancing) to the forefront again, not just in Jamaica, but across the entire Caribbean. People are dancing to dancehall again in schools, at weddings. Even the Prime Minister is dancing, and that is something I've always wanted to do as a dancer, get the Prime Minister dancing," he said.

"Bogle was the one who set it, and his death did put a damper on the whole dance community. Is like after him pass people never have the vibes fi dance again. I took it up on myself to carry the dance movement, and I'm glad to see that after a couple of years people are dancing again, and I'm sure he would be proud to see that."

Accomplishments

Ding Dong then went on to make it clear that he is not trying to cast a shadow on the accomplishments of other dancers by highlighting his own, and he expressed joy at the level of professionalism dancers today embody.

"It has definitely been a team effort. In recent times, I see so many dancers doing dem thing to make sure dancing stays on top, and me glad for that. I can't be selfish wid di thing because everyone works hard. Every dancer, artiste and selector play dem part in getting dance where it is today," he told THE WEEKEND STAR.

Ding Dong said the growth the dance space has seen over the last few years is evident in the way people are enjoying themselves again.

"The movement is strong. Everybody a dance and a have fun, whether dem inna dem yard or at a party," he said.

"The fact that I have accomplished this is going to give me the push I need to keep going and to take things to a next level. I know I am making good music, and I know I have a strong following. The world is mine for the taking now, and I can only continue going up in 2018."
