Lisa Hyper launches Boss Up Hookahs
Dancehall artiste Lisa Hyper says that she has always been led by a spirit of entrepreneurship, and that's why when a close friend proposed they get into the business of renting hookahs to partygoers, she did not hesitate.
The entertainer expressed that having spent time around mentor Vybz Kartel, she grew to appreciate his hustle as a businessman and has always strived to follow in his footsteps.
"The spirit of entrepreneurship has always been there. I have been investing in me since 2009, and I've always thought about what I would do with my money when it comes," she said. "My friend from high school approached me with the idea, and as someone who is on the ground at parties, I know hookahs are growing in popularity, so I saw it as a good opportunity."
A hookah is a single- or multi-stemmed instrument for vaporising and smoking flavoured tobacco, whose vapour or smoke is passed through a water basin (often glass-based) before inhalation.
The deejay told THE WEEKEND STAR that although her business, Boss Up Hookahs, is fairly new on the local scene, she has secretly been an investor in it since 2016.
She said that Boss Up Hookahs is a popular business in Tampa and Fort Lauderdale in Florida. Lisa Hyper expressed confidence in the business' ability to take flight in Jamaica, pointing out that Jamaicans usually go for anything that will guarantee them a good time when they're out and about.
"Our hookahs give the users a buzz from the essence of the flavour they choose. We have six different flavours now including strawberry, pineapple, mint, and blueberry," she said. "People are always partying and trying to have a good time, and although the business is fairly new, there is already a high demand for our hookahs. We can supply up to 30 hookahs per event. Each hookah can be rented at $4,000 a piece."
She went on to say that hookahs are only available for events and not for personal bookings.
