Morgan Heritage's song doing well despite Tanzanian ban

Grammy Award-winning reggae band Morgan Heritage says the group is not fazed by the ban placed on their song, 'Hallelujah', by the Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA).

Earlier this month, African media outlets reported that the song was banned five months after its release, as the TCRA believed the song was sending messages that were against the country's morals. The song was released in September 2017

According to nairobinews.nation.co, TCRA argued that the song was 'blasphemous' and that the music video was praising indecent ladies.

Although the song has been banned in Tanzania, the track has received more than 10.5 million views on YouTube.

With that in mind, the internationally renowned reggae group said they will not be daunted by the TCRA's decision.

In a statement sent to THE STAR via a third party representative, Mojo Morgan of Morgan Heritage said the group will not be fighting the ban.

"In situations like this, it's not worth the fight because the Internet is still free. People will find the song and video whenever they choose. In this digital age, content is king and will always be accessible to those that want to find it," said Mojo Morgan, a member of the group.

He also disclosed that while the song has been banned in Tanzania, the track is still being supported by other countries across the continent.

"We were only aware of the song being banned from radio and TV in Tanzania. As far as we know, the song is still being played on TV and radio stations across Africa," he said.

"For us as a group, the journey continues. We closed 2018 with our first viral hit in the new single Africa x Jamaica, featuring Diamond Platnumz and Stonebwoy. We are now in Kenya filming the video for the second single from our upcoming album to be released in late spring."

That single will see the reggae group collaborating with Nigerian superstar Patoranking on a song called Pay Attention.
