Bay-C returns to bring Christmas cheer to Swallowfield - Learns true meaning of the season by giving back

Bay-C follows one of the supervisors of the Swallowfield Chapel's soup kitchen initiative Julie Salmon to alert a resident of the delivery.

R oshaun 'Bay-C' Clarke has been putting his celebrity status to good cause. For the past 10 years, the entertainer is part of a giveback initiative at Swallowfield, St Andrew, that is aimed at bringing cheers to the less fortunate.

"I think giving back is important, the fact is that a lot of people are out there in need of help," said Bay-C, whose Spatial Innovision partnered with Swallowfield Chapel's soup kitchen programme for the latest effort on Wednesday.

"As a company so successful in our own space, many of its members came from humble beginnings, so it is a strong part of our DNA to never forget where we are coming from and to encourage people who may require a helping hand," he said of Spatial Innovision's involvement in the initiative.

Bay-C said that approximately 100 lunches were delivered to residents, mainly the elderly, of the Swallowfield community last year. And this year, the number of cooked meals, which included curried, stewed and jerk chicken with rice and peas doubled.

"It really resonates with me on a very personal level, it could be my grandmother or grandfather, but some of these residents don't even have family around. It is a scary thing to be a certain age and not have family to help," Bay-C said.

Another thing that resonated with the Holy Temple artiste over the past year is a lesson one resident known as Mr Campbell, an upholsterer, imparted on him.

"When we brought food to him in 2018, it was on his birthday, and I wished him best of wealth, and he quickly stopped me and shared, 'Anyone you giving a blessing to, make sure it is a blessing of health. I don't need the wealth, health comes first'. I have never left that out," he recalled.

Mr Campbell was happy to see Bay-C return to his workshop-home last Wednesday and the two men shared a moment of laughter.
