Controversial dancehall artiste Khago, has added 'The Dealer' to his moniker, and this has nothing to do with any substance usually associated with this term.

Simply put, Khago is a music dealer. His wife, Francine Gayle, who is also his manger, told THE STAR that the Nah Sell Out singer, having suffered at the hands of several less-than-honest producers, felt that a name change was necessary. Especially, she said, since he has turned a new page and is now completely in charge of everything to do with his career.

"So much controversy has occurred with Khago that he felt the need to change his name, but he didn't want to separate himself too much from his brand 'Khago' which everybody knows. It was actually a Khagonian (as his fan base is called) who suggested it when he said, 'yuh a real dealer fi di music," Gayle explained.

Calling his own shots

According to her, Khago The Dealer is totally independent of everybody and is calling his own shots. She made reference to the much-publicised bust-up with him and producer Kemar 'Flava' McGregor, which saw McGregor filing a lawsuit against the couple in Florida Southern District Court in 2018.

They were sued for fraud, breach of contract, copyright infringement, and defamation of character. Gayle told THE STAR that she and Khago filed a counter-suit and injunction against McGregor and that they have a court appearance on March 19.

Gayle disclosed that Khago The Dealer is not only writing and producing his own music, he is also dealing with his own publishing, royalties and copyright.

She said that the entertainer is keeping his eye on the prize and is educating himself fully about the business, and continues to release new products.

Actually, in January, he released two brand new albums and re-released a third, all of them on his own label, Long Chain Global.

" One More Mile and The Dealer were released on January 17 and the following day we re-released Spirits, which is a dancehall-gospel album. One More Mile made its debut on this week's Billboard Reggae Albums Chart at number 19, but I was shocked because in terms of physical sales, I know that Spirits is outdoing it. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next week," she said

This is actually Khago's third time on the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart. His 2018 offering, Walk A Mile, climbed to the number-two slot, and Dancehall Soca peaked at number four.

He kicks off his Khago The Dealer US Tour on April 18 with dates confirmed for New York, South Carolina, Florida and Tennessee.
