Friend sets up GoFundMe for Sandra Brooks

Established gospel artiste and former member of the Grace Thrillers Sandra Brooks, who is faced with mounting medical expenses following surgery at the University Hospital of the West Indies, Mona, has had a GoFundMe account set up in her name.

One of Brooks' friends of over 30 years, D. Roy Bramwell, an online radio personality in Houston, Texas, told THE STAR that she reached out to him.

"She seemed a bit despondent and I felt her troubles. I, personally, could not help her financially, after hearing that she broke her ankle, did surgery, spent three weeks in hospital and incurred an enormous medical bill. So I reached out to a few friends, and they suggested a GoFundMe. With that said, and with Sandra's consent, I started the campaign on Friday, with the expectancy that after such a long career in ministry, she would receive the help she needs," he explained.

The goal is US$10,000. Up to press time, US$610 had been raised.

Information on the GoFundMe site states that Brooks has already spent more than J$300,000 and will need physical therapy and additional surgeries.

30-Year

"Sandra has been ministering for over 30 years. She has dedicated her life to ministering to souls for God's kingdom. She is currently recuperating at home. The road to recovery for Sandra Brooks will be long, but she is dedicated to continuing her journey as a Christian worker for the Lord," the site read. "We are asking for your help to cover the costs of her hospital stay, rehabilitation facilities, and home-visits care as she transitions into a life that is different but still her own. Your support means the world to Sandra and to all her family, friends, fans, and loved ones."

While ministering with the Grace Thrillers, Brooks recorded the lead in songs such as Crown Him and As in the Days of Noah. She subsequently went solo and in 1994, launched her first album, Don't Worry, which topped the gospel chart in Jamaica and parts of the Caribbean.

In 1998, her second album, The Answer, spawned the lead single of the same name and superseded the sales of the previous album.
