The lawyer for dancehall deejay Laden says his client was not disappointed when he was denied bail on Tuesday in the St Elizabeth Resident Magistrate's Court in Santa Cruz.

However, he is hopeful of securing bail at the entertainer's next court date on Monday, November 9, when he plans to take a different approach.

Okeefe Aarons, more popularly known as Laden, was hauled before the court on charges of illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, breaching the Disaster Risk Management Act, and failing to stop on the request of the police.

Attorney-at-law Charles A. Benbow told THE STAR that he had explained all possible scenarios of Tuesday's outcome, so Laden was prepared, and is keeping his spirits up as he awaits his next court date .

Ballistic report

"The judge has requested a social enquiry report and is also waiting for the ballistic report from the police," Benbow said.

He pointed out that Laden was not physically present in court owing to COVID-19 restrictions, but he said that if he had been there, the outcome would have been the same.

"We are now going to take a particular course of action, but I can't say much about that," Benbow said.

Benbow had told THE STAR on Monday that his client was pleading not guilty to all charges, except breaching the Disaster Risk Management Act.
