Wahs thinking long-term in music and business
Though currently one of the youngest artistes on the dancehall scene, Wahs is already thinking of the best investment plan for his money.
He is the brother of fast-rising deejay Intence, and entered into the spotlight last July with the release of their collaboration titled DM Full Up.
"It's like the dancehall lovers were waiting for a song like that. I instantly became known as the 'DM Boss'," said Wahs. He said that since the single became popular, he has released other tracks.
"One thing about these fans, they aren't afraid to give feedback, whether good or bad, and I have used that to step up what I do, so that I can always be putting out good music," he said, before noting that the pandemic has only affected the frequency of shows for him.
Wahs, given name Eshawn Gabbidon, shared that since making an entrance into the music business, it has been a learning experience.
"You have to be prepared for the backlash that comes with it, but same time, yuh have to remember that yuh want to be successful and just do your best all the same. One of the things I definitely learn is that the industry is not for the weak," he told THE STAR.
"So when I put in the work and become successful, I plan to invest in real estate, starting with a place I can turn into ah Airbnb, and probably go big and invest in a hotel. This is so I can always have another stream of income," he added.
He also credits his father, a former entertainer known by the name Fada Axe, whose ambition to have a career in music inspired his own.
Wahs said, "He really gave us the push we needed to make it when him see that we had the opportunity to be successful and accomplish a dream that even he had for himself."
Wahs said that unlike his brother, who has built an image as an antisocial character within the dancehall space, he is taking a different approach.
"We are the same team, but each artiste representing in a different way. Him (Intence) has an influence on me, always in the studio when I record giving me advice on how to flow and put the melody. But me perform different, and my entrance is different. Right now, we are working on new music together."
