Riding the high of his performances across the Caribbean over the past three months, 'Uptop Boss' Teejay passed through Epican's recent media launch event to stake his claim as a conscious cannabis advocate.

Although being neither an official ambassador for the brand nor a cannabis expert, Teejay decided to lend support as the company announced new strains. He said that after a 'tricky' first exposure to ganja, "Over the years me learn what work for me".

"We need it and endorse it, yea, but we have to also learn how fi use it," he cautioned those seeking to light up. "So far I have loved everything Epican is doing. When them giving the good thing dem, we endorse it because it means a lot to me."After a short performance, the dancehall entertainer shared the story of his first time smoking marijuana with THE WEEKEND STAR.

"Not even sure if me fi share my first experience, it a go mek yuh laugh too much," he said. "That first time smoking, me run lef me shoes. Me run about four or five mile or suh. There is no one strain I choose, me love all of them." In so far as his preference towards the Indica or Sativa strains, Teejay looks like he leans towards the former or would enjoy a hybrid combination of the two.

"It calms the brain. Nuff time a lot on my brain and any time I smoke, it calms me," as said, noting that smoking cannabis is part of his daily routine and meditation before recording.

He has released several musical odes to marijuana including First Class Kush, Weed Morning and Henne & Weed, and is often seen puffing smoke in the visuals for his songs.

Teejay is in the Turks and Caicos this weekend where he has been named the headliner on the Summer Fling stages in Providenciales on Saturday. He returns to Jamaica immediately after for more guest appearances and is looking forward to engaging the fans. Teejay is also gearing up for the release of his Rags To Riches album this summer but a date is yet to be confirmed.

"I will be travelling a lot, also headed to Canada this summer holiday," he said. "I also wish to enjoy a little of summer. If I was to take a vacation, I'd choose somewhere like Bali for the sights, just for me and bae."
