Minister Hall ‘more dangerous as a performer today’ – Gramps Morgan
Reggae singer and producer Gramps Morgan believes that Minister Marion Hall, formerly Lady Saw, the Queen of the Dancehall, has become "even more dangerous as a performer today" and he is anticipating her performance at Reggae Sumfest in July where she will "make God popular again".
"I've been a fan of hers from the first time I met her," the Grammy Award-winning artiste told THE WEEKEND STAR. "I saw the God in her. Her spirit has always been there, and it is also evident in her stage performances. I think she has become even more dangerous as a performer today, because of where her spirit is and where she is in her life. She's always been one of the best female performers in dancehall music."
Gramps, who produced one of Minister Hall's recent singles, titled I'm Doing Better, on Downsound Records label, is also happy that a complete album is in the works.
"You can call it fate, or whatever, but this was destiny. I've known her for over 20 years. She's a creator and I am a creator. She reached out to me during the pandemic, as she heard the work that I was doing with my latest solo album ... positive vibration, and love, the quality of the work, and the songwriting. But we've been friends for many years, from the first time I met her at King Jammys studio," the People Like You singer shared.
Minister Hall has attracted quite a bit of controversy since she debuted her new singles and the accompanying cover photos which some have condemned as being too secular.
Gramps, however, was not about to get caught up in the swirling controversy. Quizzed about the impact which he believes Minister Hall will have on the Reggae Sumfest stage, the Rastafarian singer was very forthright in explaining what he called "the mission".
"Our mission is not to impress people, but to save souls ... bringing young people to Christ, making God popular again, breaking down walls of religion and uplifting the community of spirituality," he said.
"This is the mission, so I believe she will do extremely well way over and beyond what people will be expecting. Nothing has changed in the energy of her performance. The only thing that has risen inside her is the word of God, and that will be displayed when people see her in cities around the world."
