Azee tackles HIV on ‘Can’t Tell’
With HIV still at an alarming rate in Jamaica, singjay Azee calls for responsible sexual behaviour on his single Can't Tell.
He co-produced the song with his brother Ansel for the Crown International label. It also features DYCR, Junior Cat, Mr Lexx and Power Man.
"I did that song because I know five people who died from HIV/AIDS. Two of them are in the music industry. The message is to open the eyes of the people in the world because HIV is still around and anyone can catch it," said Azee.
Can't Tell is recorded on the revamped 'Sweet Lyfe' rhythm which was first released in 2016. Alarmed by figures from Jamaica's health ministry, which reports that just over 30,000 Jamaicans are living with HIV/AIDS, Azee recruited three colleagues to help get his message across.
"It was not difficult [getting the artistes] because I know all the artistes well, so I just call them to come to the studio one at a time, not the same day, and I tell them what I wanted," he explained.
He and his brother are from Central Village, Spanish Town, St Catherine. Azee has recorded sporadically since kicking off his career just over 20 years ago.
