Ginjah tackles hardships on ‘Immigration’

Reggae star Ginjah seems to make hit songs at will and according to many musical pundits, this is due to the quality and potency of his natural vocal ability and exceptional writing skills. The ' Never Lost My Way' singer, however, says his music resonates because he writes from his heart, which is filled with great love for his people.

He put this notion on display in his latest release, Immigration. The single tackles the controversial topic of immigration and the effects it has on the local economy, which is heavily dependent on remittance revenue.

"Mama run guh abroad just fi get a better life, the pressure is on. Over the years, many Jamaicans have sought greener pastures overseas in an effort to not only help themselves, but to also help family members in Jamaica," he said. "However, the recent changes in the immigration laws have made it extremely difficult for many and now people running from immigration authorities, which ultimately affects the Jamaican economy as well."

He added, "I decided to shed some light on this pressing issue when I thought about how many poor people depend on a little ting a forward a Western Union a month end from dem family a foreign. I love my people, so I feel their pain and my music resonates with them because I always put my true emotions in my music."

The Sweet Killer singer said he teamed up with producers Rapid Production and Sart Out Records, who saw his vision and added the production element. According to Rapid Production, he knew the single would resonate well the moment he heard it.

"The vocals were great and the topic is very relevant at the moment. Ginjah is very easy to work with, dem man deh find words and melody effortlessly. Plus, him very dedicated to the music," the producer stated.

Ginjah is currently busy promoting the single and putting the finishing touches to a new 17-track album. He is also performing at various shows in the US.
