Jah Teff wants persons to be smart with ‘Money’
Since he began recording songs 27 years ago, Jah Teff has learned a lot about the music business.
Many people see its glamorous side, but there are many pitfalls, several of them financial. With Money, his latest song, the New York-based singjay hopes to guide youth to be responsible when it comes to getting paid.
"The message behind the song is simply investing money to make more money. I want to reach the younger generation with this song," said Jah Teff.
Money is the follow-up to Can't Sleep, a party song that he did with Keisha Martin. Strong Survive is another of Jah Teff's recent releases.
Having started his career as a protege of Bounty Killer in 1996, Jah Teff believes he is equipped to share advice on a business that requires resilience if artistes are in it for the long run.
From the district of Hopeton in Montego Bay, St James, he found his way to Kingston in the 1990s and recorded Exercise, his first song, which was produced by Bounty Killer. He was impressive enough for another established artiste, Anthony B, to take him on his first tour, which was in the US just over 10 years ago.
