Although his musical journey hadn't been a smooth ride, rising newcomer Symflo says the experience has taught him a lot.

"Everything that took place helped me to [get to] where I am. There were disappointments along the way. Sometimes I had no bus fare when I was going to the studio, so I had to walk. Then there were times that you had to wait until the more established artistes voiced, before you could voice your song. It was a learning experience but I always push on," said Symflo.

The singer, who grew up around the musical hotbed of Cassava Piece and Mannings Hill Road in St Andrew, is currently promoting the song Jawcawna, which is an ode to the females.

"Once I heard the beat and it spoke a certain way, I began to put words to it. As the riddim finish mek, the song was recorded. DJ Phenzik was in the studio with us and I was mumbling the hook and him say mi must 'ruff up' the song a little bit, because that's what the females want to hear," said Symflo.

Jawcawna was produced by Ivey League Productions/D'Musical Antidotes and released in May.

"It's always good working with Ivey League Productions. The producer Laten is music minded, humble and he gives the artistes space to do their thing. We have also known each other for a while now. The first time I worked with him was when I did a tribute song to one of his nephews who passed away," said Symflo.

Symflo said he brings a message and conscious vibe to the music. One of his goals is to win a Grammy award and to be recognised internationally for his contribution to music.
