Gramps promises good Jamaican artistry at Chris Brown concert

Gramps Morgan is the latest artiste to be named on the line-up for Chris Brown's Under the Influence tour stop in Jamaica, and the country reggae singer is not hiding his joy.

In fact, his excitement is in all caps and he is promising an acoustic performance that will be filled with all that is good.

"I'm just excited to sing for Jamaica and beside my colleagues ... it's always a joy to perform on stage so I'm EXCITED!!! I pray Jamaica enjoy The Gramps Morgan Experience. They can expect me singing from my heart they can expect good Jamaican music and good Jamaican artistry," he shared.

When the action unfolds inside the National Stadium in Kingston on Sunday, Gramps will join headliner Chris Brown, Sean Kingston, Byron Messia, TeeJay, Aidonia and Ding Dong on stage for a production that the organisers promise will be second to none. BZR Weekend -- the Jamaican edition -- is being helmed by Solid Agency, Burke Bodley, VEW Live, LLC + PLXYBOY, and Jay Upscale.

The complete list of events starting from Friday, August 25, will include Haute Monde Jamaica [invitation only], Memba Dis! Ultimate Ol' Skool Party, Paradise Brunch Party, Indigo and the Under The Influence concert. Gramps shared that as a music connoisseur, he listens keenly to Chris Brown's songs and has his favourites.

"One of my favourites is a song called Come Together featuring H.E.R. The reason I love this one so much is because Chris' melody is straight from the heart ... listen and you'll hear for yourself," he said.

For Gramps, part of the sibling group Morgan Heritage, 2023 has been a year of highs. The group recently received the Reggae Icon Award from the Government at the Grand Gala on Independence Day at the National Stadium, and weeks prior, they made their first appearance at Reggae Sumfest in a decade. It was hailed as a triumphant return.

Gramps, who has been dedicating time to his solo career, was crowned King of Country Reggae when he performed at the St Kitts Music Festival in June. He noted that his father, Ras Denroy Morgan, would have been proud.

"I'm grateful for this year, as last year losing my father was not easy. But I'm doing what he asked me to do which is keep the music going with my siblings Morgan Heritage and my solo projects which my dad begged me to never stop doing. I'm just grateful for an amazing year so far. My team in Canada ... Halo Music, Johnny Reid .... team Jamaica, Contractor Music, Tango International and my people of St Thomas, may we our island for ever be blessed," he said.
