Grammy Award-winning songwriter and singer Major Myjah continues to count his blessings as he was recently signed to Jay Z's Roc Nation.

Major Myjah, who is the son of dancehall icon Bounty Killer, said that he is prepared to work hard to continue achieving "major milestones".

"It feels good but from my experience in the music industry, me know seh when yuh get dem deal deh, is when di work start. So me just ready fi put my head down and work hard. I'm proud and it's a major milestone [which] is super dope because [Roc Nation] is one of the greatest entertainment companies in America and the ceiling/standard is very high and there's a lot a dope things that comes with that. But I wanna work hard for it. I don't want it to come because they know who I am and it's Roc Nation," he told THE STAR.

"ROC Nation has been great, big up to everybody over there, they have been super great and helpful. The morale has been really great and I'm glad for that [because] it makes me feel happy to know that everybody is in line and enjoying what I'm doing and I'm able to be creating something that everybody can be happy and be proud of," he added.

The American-Jamaican, who recently arrived on the island to share more of himself with the people, said most of his 'credit' in music has been for his "behind the scene" work with renowned artistes such as Chris Brown, Usher and Damian Marley.

"So I think with this [deal], my main goal as an artiste is to be consistent, dropping things people wanna hear and creating a cadence for my audience and expectations for my fans under this label. That's one of the biggest things that I have not been able to do in my career thus far that I'm looking forward to," he stated. The artiste has launched a 'Listening Party Tour' where the Jamaican leg will be hosted on Tuesday, at Janga's Soundbar & Grill in New Kingston.

"The hardest thing for me as an artiste is to connect with people because you have so much coming in from social media and [what is] marketed to you. So I thought the best way to connect with the people that have been following along for so many years was to get to them and touch them and let them know 'I'm here, I'm present, I wanna joke with you or share a drink and hol' a vibes yuh nuh'," he said. "If there's anything I learnt from my father is, you have to be for the people".

Major Myjah is credited for being the songwriter for Chris Brown's 2024 Grammy-nominated single Summer Too Hot. He was also featured on Marley's 2017 Grammy winning Best Reggae Album Stony Hill, for writing the song Upholstery.

"It's just all God's plan. Mi neva expect fi get dat, it wasn't planned and it's just a blessing for Chris [Brown] as well as for me. Being able to work with Chris is always super dope - he's one of the most talented, most hard-working and inspiring guys in the industry and I'm just glad to see him getting what's due for his work; and dat mek me proud," stated Major Myjah.

Despite the hardcore dancehall style of his dad's music, the artiste said dancehall "was almost never my type of music".

"I know that sounds crazy to even say but I grew up playing guitar and listening to The Beatles and vibing to different stuff until later I found R&B a little bit more interesting. And because I grew up being inspired by so many things, it's never gonna be one thing. I'm a genre-bender and a big part of my music is bridging the gap between genres. I think there's too much divisiveness when it comes on to music and culture and it's one love at the end of the day. [But] unu soon hear some dancehall from me, soon," he said with a laugh.
