Dan Rich takes up comedy - All Fools Day baby says he was born to give jokes

Multifaceted entertainer Dan Rich has ventured beyond his musical wittiness, taking his talent into the world of comedy.

The veteran producer and artiste made his name in the entertainment business under the moniker Don Sniper. He has produced several hits, including Vybz Kartel's Brace of mi Life on his 2009 'Hice It Up Riddim', and Beenie Man's Gal Wine. He said that he is ready to take on a new niche as a comedian.

"A lot a people used to tell mi, 'Yuh should do the comedy, enuh, cause yuh have di natural talent,' suh a jus seh arite, a gwaan try it. [My] friend, Michael Smalls, was keeping a show and I said I was gonna run on the stage and give it a [try], and I went and mash up di show," Dan Rich told THE STAR.

The 'musical-comedian' said that having "got a good response" he decided that there was no turning back.

"I go to 'Johnny Comedy Bar' and I did well there, too, everybody [was] surprised and some people inna di business a seh, 'Bwai, it look like a long time yuh a do dis'. But actually, mi just start."

A passion he is evidently serious in undertaken, Dan Rich is actively making both talents work as he sometimes infuses his songs into his comedy, which he said provides a more comedic-melodious creativity to his work.

Dan Rich, whose given name is Michael Davis, was born on All Fools Day, labels himself a natural comedian.

"Mi born as a comedian. I always find the time to entertain - for music and comedy, I love doing that. So sometimes when mi do a joke, mi just sing a song after and do back a joke, suh mi jus use di two a dem - use mi talent," he stated.

Dan Rich is slated to perform at the Montego Bay Comedy Fest on Sunday, August 4. However, the producer-turned-comedian said while he is now in-tuned with focusing on his 'new-found love' in comedy, he is still in the business of producing and is ready again to "drop [Vybz] Kartel on any riddim that I'm putting out - he is a great artiste".

Dan Rich has also worked with Lady Saw, Gyptian, Singer J and Mad Cobra among others under his own 'Pleasure Time' recording label. As an artiste, Don Sniper is popularly known for songs such as Get di Money, My Girl Yuh A Murder and Party Hard - a techno-dancehall track featuring dancehall artiste Mad Cobra.
