D'Angel said her musical persistence has steered the algorithm in her favour, after hitting the iTunes Top 100 Reggae Songs chart for the first time in 20 years, following the release of her single, Not The Same.

"It's about time; anything yuh want yuh jus affi let it go inna di universe. Because, look how much hit songs mi have and this is my first iTunes chart song - like, I don't know. It's just a time or moment in dancehall where the people dem need a different kind a energy," D'Angel said. "It's just a vibe and it just worked. People just streaming the song and I'm shocked, because I never expected this to connect because I thought this was just a likkle 'throw word' viral song yuh nuh. But in music yuh have to just keep working, because yuh never know what's gonna be that groundbreaking song for you. I never expected this to be on any iTunes chart."

Not The Same was trending in the number eight spot on the chart last Friday and Saturday, following its release just a week ago. D'Angel said though she had several chart-topping songs on various charts, she has never had any featured in the iTunes top 10 spot, which marks a "groundbreaking" moment in her musical journey.

"It's the timing, and people really scrolling on Instagram even more since these past few weeks, suh mi just affi seize the moment, and I guess it just works," said D'Angel, in reference to the song's lyrics" ' I'm scrolling on Instagram,' which she believes captures the audience from the first line.

"The atmosphere, the energy and everything is just happening at the right time, and I'm just excited to know that mi a put in the work. Even though this wouldn't be categorised as one of D'Angel's best songs, it's clearly loved and getting the support. I hope from this moment going on, everything will just manifest in the same direction, hoping that one day mi can get nominated fi a Grammy," she said. She noted that the song has already brought her "great exposure" and she will capitalise on it internationally.

The singer admitted that the song came as a result of the recent uproar following the release of Spice's 2085 Tea. She said her single is directly aimed at everyone who tried to "tear down my career".

"Dem seh mi a throw word, but it was just a viral song about what's happening. In music yuh have to be creative, and that's what I did. And based on what's going on, I tapped into it and talk di talk and talk di tings," said D'Angel.

When asked if she just wanted to gather at the table to take a 'sip of the dancehall tea', she replied:

"I'm just 'sipping' into dancehall and my creativity, because ano every tea me drink," she said with a laugh. "If mi name neva call, it wouldn't draw mi out. Because it was right after mi hear mi name, mi mek a video and tell dem seh 'when dem a have dem congregation and a chat, unu nuh call mi name because we're not the same'. And a right deh so mi go inna di studio," she explained.

The singer, who recently performed at the African Caribbean Music and Stars show in Canada, said she is looking forward to her upcoming shows in the USA, UK and the Caribbean. The artiste is also working on releasing her debut album this year.
