Weekend Entertainment Diary January 18

January 18, 2019
Anthony Minott/Freelance Photographer Kimmy Goldaz builds a vibe at Red & White Boat Ride party held recently in Kingston.

The Grizzly's Plantation Cove in St Ann is expected to come alive today, January 18, and Saturday, January 19, when veteran reggae singer Tony Rebel and his colleagues host Rebel Salute 'The Preservation of Reggae 2019'.

The two-day festival, dubbed 'The People's Show', has been promoting 'edutainment' through reggae music for the past 26 years. A few of the entertainers set to perform on the festival's stages this year have not performed in Jamaica for many years, including Marcia Aitken, Dawn Penn and Wailing Souls (former backing band of reggae icon Bob Marley).

Rebel Salute will also feature some of the most outspoken, controversial reggae and dancehall, acts such as Mr Vegas, Capleton, Chuck Fenda, Yellow Man and Rodney 'Bounty Killer' Price. The organisers, Organic H.E.A.R.T. Group of Companies, promise all acts will make the live show worth every penny that patrons would have spend to participate.

The festival has also partnered with Epican Jamaica to bring the Herb Curb to life, which will display information that speaks to the medicinal, recreational and spiritual uses of cannabis. Tickets for Rebel Salute are available at the gate for $6,000.
