Teacher charged for sex with student

December 12, 2015

A male teacher who was allegedly found in a compromising position with a 14-year-old female student of a St Mary school last Wednesday has been charged.

The teacher, whose identity has not been released, is charged with having sex with a person under the age of 16.

Detectives from the Port Maria Police Station report that the teacher was taken into custody as a result of the diligence exercised by concerned residents. It is said that the teacher was seen acting in a suspicious manner by witnesses while making his way into a lodge in close proximity to the school.

Following checks by several persons, it is said that the teacher and underage student were found too close for comfort and an alarm was made. The school's principal was alerted and quickly made his way to the scene.

The police were summoned and the teacher arrested.

The teacher in question is expected to appear before the Port Maria Resident Magistrate's Court sometime next week to answer to the charge.
