J'can man gets 68 months for beating US officer with radio

A Jamaican man who was set for deportation from the United States is now facing over five years in a US prison after he attacked and beat a federal officer with a radio, causing bodily injury to the officer.

Charged with assault is 43-year-old Seymour Ellis, who was residing in Queens, New York.

According to the United States Department of Justice, in April 2015, Seymour was stripped of his lawful citizenship in the US and ordered deported back to Jamaica after being convicted of narcotics trafficking, robbery, and theft.

It is reported that while in the detention facility, waiting to be deported, Seymour attacked and assaulted a detention officer using a radio and his fists, causing bodily injury.

During his court appearance on Friday, Seymour was sentenced to imprisonment of 68 months by United States District Judge Frank P. Geraci.
