Sections of St Ann cleaned up

The St Ann Parish Council, assisted by the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) and the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) cleaned several areas in Brown's Town, St Ann's Bay and particularly the resort town of Ocho Rios, over the weekend.

The exercise included cleaning of verges, gutters and drains and installation of garbage receptacles, provided by TPDCo.

The main drain that runs near to the Moon Palace Jamaica Grand Resort has also been cleaned, much to the relief of several residents in of Ocho Rios.

"We started in Ocho Rios, on the weekend, what we're doing is installing 80 garbage receptacle throughout the town, also 20 in St Ann's Bay and 20 in Brown's Town," mayor of St Ann's Bay, Michael Belnavis said.

"These receptacles will be screwed down, they will be bagged and maintained several times a day. We have a programme in place to clear them, it will be done by Solid Waste," Belnavis added.

The mayor said the work will enhance the beauty of Ocho Rios, giving the town a bright new look.

Part of the improvement of Ocho Rios includes repairs to the market and Belnavis said the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) has approved $25 million for this project.

This will begin in about a month, he revealed.
