Taxi driver charged with bribery

September 04, 2018

A Manchester man who reportedly committed breaches of the Road Traffic Act last Saturday along Main Street in Christiana, has found himself deeper in trouble with the law.

According to the Christiana police, the man, Ivan Peart of Old England in the parish, was operating a taxi contrary to the terms and condition of his road licence.

According to investigating officer, Sergeant Romaine Brooks, Peart should have been plying the route Spalding to Mandeville, but was instead operating in Christiana when he was stopped.

STING OPERATION

Brooks reported that Peart's taxi was about to be seized by a policeman, when he (Peart) offered the lawman $3,000.

It is reported that a sting operation was set up at the Christiana Police Station where the taxi driver was expected to hand over the money.

When he attempted to pay, he was nabbed, arrested and charged with bribery.

Peart is to appear in the Mandeville Parish Court tomorrow to answer to the charge.
