Policeman’s mother killed - Believed to be an act of reprisal

February 07, 2020

A suspected reprisal killing has left a cop motherless. Laetitia Francis was shot and killed at about 11:47 a.m. Thursday in Angel's Drive, Old Harbour Glades in St Catherine.

According to reports, the 57-year-old shopkeeper was in her shop when three thugs entered forcefully and attacked her.

Shortly after, multiple shots were heard and the men quickly ran from the shop and escaped.

Francis was then discovered by residents suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The shopkeeper suffered shots to the neck, abdomen and foot.

She was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital where she died while being treated.

The cop was involved in a fatal shooting in the same community on January 31, and Francis' murder is said to be a reprisal.

Clive Blair, senior superintendent of police for St Catherine South, confirmed the reports to THE WEEKEND STAR.

"I can confirm that this happened, but I can't comment on it at this moment," he said.

The killing follows a triple murder in Ackee Walk, St Andrew, on Tuesday night and a double murder in Manchester on Wednesday morning.
