A British woman who was allegedly found with half a pound of cocaine as she attempted to board a flight at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston last Friday, is scheduled to make her first court appearance later this week.

The woman, who police identified as 43-year-old Toinette Carew of Flaming Road in Essex, England, has been charged with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, taking steps preparatory to export cocaine, and conspiracy to export cocaine.

Reports are that Carew was being screened at the security search area of the airport when anomalies were detected. She was subjected to a further search and one cylindrical parcel wrapped in clear plastic and grey masking tape was found concealed on her body. The parcel was cut open in her presence and found to contain cocaine weighing approximately half a pound. She was subsequently arrested and charged with the offences.

She is to appear before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Thursday.
