Treadlight to get road upgrade

A major road rehabilitation project is slated to take place in Treadlight, Clarendon, over the next 10 months. The project is being implemented by the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) at a cost of $150 million.

Jean-Luc Brown, project officer, in outlining the scope of work, said the project includes construction of approximately 1,300 metres of roadway with associated water supplies using approximately 100 millimetre diameter of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipeline mains and corresponding laterals, the construction of approximately 1,445 metres of concrete drainage structure, and the construction of 480 metres of kerb wall.

Training for community members

Community members will receive training in maintenance of the roads and drains and disaster preparedness management. Winsome Hudson Reid, manager for training at JSIF, said the coaching is necessary in order "to sensitise communities about the importance of protecting the infrastructure in the event of natural disasters".

"This training will also help the communities to apply preventative measures to sustain the life of the project," she added.
