Farmer charged with illegal firearm following dispute

Thirty-four-year-old Ryan Richards, a farmer from Irish Town in St Andrew, was charged with assault after threatening to shoot a man during a dispute.

According to the Irish Town Police, on Friday, July 01, the two men got into a fight in the town square.

Richards reportedly hit the man with a blunt object, after which his victim retaliated by chopping the farmer with a machete.

The police intervened and both men were taken to the hospital and treated

During the investigation that followed, it was revealed that Richards had earlier been warned by the police after it was reported that he threatened the other man with a firearm.

He was therefore charged with illegal possession of firearm, assault at common law, and unlawful wounding.

His court date is being arranged.
