After years of frustration, the family of Patrick Scott, a labourer and businessman, who was found dead at his home in 2021, is finally getting closure as two persons were recently arrested in connection with his death.

Initially, the police suspected that Scott, who owned a wholesale business, had committed suicide on May 20, 2021, as reports suggested that he had used a 9mm Sig Sauer pistol to kill himself. At the time of his death, the Hunts Bay police were told that about 6:40 a.m., Scott was at home in Brook Valley, Kingston 20, with a relative when he died from what was believed to be self-inflicted gunshot wound.

However, yesterday, the Corporate Communications Unit confirmed that two persons, who were known to Scott, are now in custody in connection with his death. They are expected to be formally charged. Despite no formal charges yet, Scott's brother Damion Carter, who never believed his brother had killed himself, sees the arrests as "the first step to justice."

"I know my brother; my family knows my brother and we know that he would never kill himself. This man loves life," said Carter. "This man gets up at 4 o'clock in the morning and walks and exercises. He's a successful businessman, he turned nothing into something so we know he would never try to kill himself."

"I was crushed because my brother is the leader of the family, he's the head of our family so to hear that, it really took a toll on me, it really hurt me up to this day... it feels like you know when you have a wound that is healing, and somebody comes and open the wound right back. I'm reliving the pain all over again," said Carter.

Scott's mother, Claire Taylor, told THE STAR that she is hopeful and eagerly anticipating justice being served because she was always vocal about the strange circumstances surrounding her son's death. Taylor, who lives in the United States, spoke to her son three weeks before he died. She admitted that he was ill but inisted that he was looking forward to getting better. However, while Scott's brother was making plans to take him to the doctor, he got the news that he had killed himself.

"He was sick and weak, so he didn't want to talk on the phone, but I was in Jamaica at the time, and I went there, and I was crying, and I told them I don't think he killed himself. I know he did not kill himself," said Taylor. Now both Taylor and Carter are eagerly anticipating formal charges being filed.

"I love my son, he's my first-born child and I need justice for him," said Taylor.
