Woman demands DNA test from ex

January 15, 2025

Tired of being questioned about her baby's skin tone and physical features, Jane* is seeking a DNA test to silence the doubts of her one-year-old's father.

"Him woman [her babyfather's spouse] a push tings and a tell him say all a the baby dem black and my baby brown. She say as long as DNA come back say a him a the father, she will even take the baby. But that will not happen. Mi wish dem did a do DNA at birth because mi wanted this long time because I have no doubts about who the father of the child is. Mi asking one of the DNA companies to please let this happen," she said.

DNA paternity and relationship testing company 876DNA said 47 per cent of the men it tested in 2024 were not the biological fathers of the children they had been raising. But Jane, a mother of three, said she is 100 per cent certain that she is not a contributor to the paternity fraud trend. She said two years ago when she had a miscarriage, her now ex-partner begged her to conceive again.

"A from 2019 we a talk and him tell mi say him and him woman did a talk before mi, but dem did break off. But I am not sure," she said. Jane said the man's spouse found out about their affair and contacted her demanding to know if he was the father of her unborn child.

"I guess him never own up mi pregnancy or anything. Mi never did want to mash up anything for dem, so when him tell mi to keep we ting on the down low, mi do it. She get fi know say di two a we a get cheat on and obviously him ago choose she because she a spend di money," Jane said.

She said although her babyfather lied to his woman about impregnating her, he remained in her corner throughout her pregnancy and was there for the first few months of the baby's life. But, his bond with the baby was shortlived.

"Him come a the yard come look for mi and give mi money for we son and den him woman start track him and find mi yard and one whole heap a antics gwan. Him use to come round to see di baby features. Him a say everybody a say the baby too brown and him black, but the same way the baby look, it was the same way mi look when mi just born," she said.

"Him a watch the baby from him a grow and everytime him come around him, it is like him a look fi see sumpn and him a say all him a look, him nah see him features in the baby. But, the baby is his own because him is the only man mi sleep with. Him now decide say him nah do nutten more for the baby until DNA do and him nah pay for it," Jane added. She expressed sympathy for the men who have received 'jackets'.

"It hard to know say yuh bond with a baby and the child like really know yuh, and when yuh take a stock, it's not yours. That is really heartbreaking and wrong," she said.
