Police slapped with rape charge
The police constable who allegedly raped a woman in Black River, St Elizabeth, while on duty, has been charged.
The cop, Constable Alwayne Hill, was charged with rape, grievous sexual assault, forcible abduction, corruptly soliciting and simple larceny following a ruling from the director of public prosecutions (DPP).
Reports are that on the night of the incident, Hill and three other cops were on checkpoint operation when they signalled a woman to stop. The cops allegedly detected a breach of the Road Traffic Act. Hill allegedly solicited money in exchange for not prosecuting the woman. She was allegedly taken to an ATM, and then to the back of a building where she was sexually assaulted.
The woman reported the matter to the police and following an investigation, a case file was prepared and submitted to the DPP who recommended that Hill be charged.
The other three officers were subsequently released.
"The JCF is assuring the public that such allegations are taken seriously and that it is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens," said Commissioner of Police, Major General Antony Anderson.
