Man accused of robbing school canteen

A St Elizabeth man has been accused of stealing $20,000 worth of grocery items from a school canteen in the parish.

Macoy Stephenson, 34, otherwise called 'Ratty' of Ridge district, in the parish, was charged with school house-breaking and larceny following an incident on January 19.

Reports indicate that about 2:30 p.m., a staff member of the school securely locked the canteen and left. Upon her return, she discovered that a board window was forced open and grocery items amounting to $20,000 was missing. Stephenson was later held by citizens and handed over to the police. He later admitted to the act and was formally charged on Monday. His court date is yet to be announced.

In another incident of larceny, the Buff Bay police have charged 33-year-old Rockney Cameron of Nelson Street, Buff Bay, Portland, with shop breaking and larceny which occurred on February 8 at Spring Garden in the parish. Reports from the Buff Bay police are that about 7:30 p.m., the shop owner closed his business place and left. Upon his return the following morning, he realised that it had been broken into, and made a report to the police. An investigation was launched and Cameron was subsequently arrested and charged on Sunday.

He is set to appear in the Portland Parish Court on Friday, to answer to the charges.
