A fruit vendor who operates along the White House main road in St James had to be rushed to the hospital, after he was reportedly hit by a truck while selling his fruits on Tuesday afternoon.

He has only been identified as 'Sheldon' of a Manchester address.

It is reported that Sheldon was selling fruits along the soft shoulder of the main road, when a speed truck hit him, causing damage to one of his arms.

An Emergency Medical Technician, who had just arrived on the island for vacation, witnessed the incident and stopped to aid the vendor with the support of community members.

The vendor had to be transported to the hospital in the trunk of a car, after the group allegedly waited for over 30 minutes in the sun for an ambulance which never came.

The truck driver has since been taken into custody by the police.
