Teen, businessman accused of theft

A St Ann teen has been charged by the police in relation to an incident that took place in Huntley district, Brown's Town, on July 12, 2022.

Garfield McDermott, 18, a labourer of Liberty Drive, Brown's Town, is charged with possession of prohibited weapon, robbery with aggravation and conspiracy to robbery. Reports are that about 6 p.m., a man was driving a motorcycle and was in the process of delivering food items in the area. Upon reaching the area, he was pounced upon by McDermott and another man. One of the gunmen pointed a firearm at the motorcyclist. McDermott then pushed the man off the motorcycle and took the motorcycle from him. Both McDermott and his accomplice escaped on the motorcycle. A report was made to the police, an investigation launched and McDermott was arrested. He was charged after he was questioned in the presence of his attorney. His accomplice is currently being sought by the police.

In a separate incident in Clarendon, Wilbert Graham, 49, a businessman of Mason River, in the parish, was charged with house-breaking and larceny in relation to an incident that occurred in Burn district, Kellits, on February 20. Reports are that about 7:20 a.m., a woman was at her house when Graham tried to get into a section of it. However, he was unable to do so. He then picked up a stone and used it to hit the padlock off the grille. Graham then gained entry to a room and took up a bag belonging to the woman. He also took cash from the premises and left. A report was made to the police. Following an investigation, Graham was arrested and subsequently charged after a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney. He is scheduled to appear before the Clarendon Parish Court on Wednesday, March 29.
