Teachers stage sickout at Garvey Maceo
The Garvey Maceo High School in Clarendon has confirmed that classes were dismissed before noon today, after a number of teachers called out sick.
The school's acting principal, Dian Fenton-Thompson told the media earlier today that some 80 per cent of teachers were absent.
The STAR understands the teachers staged a sickout in protest of wage negotiations which have not been fruitful.
In a Press Release today, the school advised that classes would be suspended at 11:10 a.m.
"Due to a number of our teachers being absent, as a result of ill health or unforeseen circumstances, school will be dismissed at 11:10 a.m. today, March 6, 2023. We apologise for any inconvenience caused," the Vernamfield-based institution said in the release.
