Man chokes wife’s nephew during fight

A St James man who reportedly choked his wife's nephew during a fight in June is to attend restorative justice sessions with the complainant ahead of his next appearance in the St James Parish Court on September 21.

Fabian Campbell, who is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, got the restorative justice order and the new court date from presiding Judge Sasha-Marie Ashley when he appeared in court on Wednesday.

Allegations are that on June 14, Campbell and the complainant were at Rose Heights when a dispute arose between them. The quarrel escalated into a physical brawl, reportedly started by Campbell. During the fight, Campbell reportedly grabbed and squeezed the complainant's neck until the other man lost his breath. Persons intervened, following which Campbell fled the scene. Following police investigations, he was later arrested and charged.

On Wednesday, the complainant told Judge Ashley that there had not yet been any resolution between him and Campbell.

The jurist subsequently made a restorative justice order for the two men to sit and discuss their issues with a trained mediator. She then set the case for continuation on September 21, at which time a report from the mediator's office is to be submitted.
