Moystons were ‘happy’ before murder-suicide
In the hours leading up to her passing on Saturday night, Heather Moyston asked a friend to speak with her husband, Wesley Moyston.
Their marriage was going through a challenging phase, and she apparently felt the intervention of the mutual pal, who they visited in east Kingston, could be of assistance.
The Moystons were among nine persons who reportedly spent the day laughing, eating and chatting at a cookout in east Kingston.
"We went to check a friend who is visiting from England and that friend's friend was keeping a cookout so we were at the cookout. It was normal for us to hang out, whether or not our friend from England is here," one of the attendees told THE STAR.
At one point during the link-up, Heather, 59, group administrator at Digicel Jamaica, reached out and asked for help. The persons at the cookout did not find her request to be odd.
"I know there was some little issues prior to us meeting up on Saturday. Normal husband and wife issues," the attendee said. "The wife had asked our friend from England, while we were at the house last week, to talk to him, which he did, but as I said it's just regular husband and wife issues, nothing major."
It is unclear what happened after the couple left east Kingston, except that they did not reach their Smokey Vale, St Andrew, home.
Reports are that on Saturday night, the couple were travelling in a white Honda motor vehicle along Windward Road. It is alleged that upon reaching a traffic light, the vehicle came to a stop and shortly after explosions were heard. Heather was seen slumped in the driver's seat with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the left side of the head, while Wesley was seen slumped in the left front passenger seat with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head.
A firearm with a magazine containing 18 9mm rounds was reportedly retrieved from the vehicle.
News of the apparent murder-suicide has sent shockwaves throughout the society. The cookout attendee with whom THE STAR spoke said the reports were unexpected, adding that the Moystons were together from about noon on Saturday until about 9 p.m., and "there was no sign of any tension between them. They were happy right til we were ready to leave," THE STAR was told.
