A 40-year-old man broke down in tears yesterday as he stood in the prisoner's dock of the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court lamenting that his mother is making his life a living hell.

"From me a eight [years old] yuh gi me weh. Me not even have me father right last name, yuh gimme other man name. Me a try fi be progressive and you're not, just leave me nuh man," Marlon McKay said as he wiped his tears.

McKay is before the court facing a charge of malicious destruction of property following an altercation with his mother at their home in the Corporate Area. He is accused of damaging windows. But McKay seemingly became frustrated after his mother, the complainant, told Senior Parish Judge Paula Blake-Powell that she feared for her life, which resulted in the judge imposing a bail condition, ordering the accused to report to the police twice weekly.

"What is all of this for Your Honour? She just a tek set pon me suh and me nuh do nothing. This a too much," he shared.

"Mr McKay, it is obvious that you need someone to talk to. You have had enough and it is only fair that you let go. I am referring this matter to mediation, because not everything can be shared in this medium. You need a space to talk freely and cry if you need to," the senior jurist said.

McKay and his mother are expected to resolve the matter at mediation and return to court on October 12 when the matter is set for mention. - T.T.
