Vendor allegedly punched in face during argument

August 24, 2023

A vendor has found himself embroiled in criminal proceedings in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court, after he assaulted a woman in full view of the public in Half-Way Tree last month.

Damon Reid is charged with unlawful wounding following an altercation with a female vendor. It is alleged that on July 1, Reid was arguing with another vendor and started to hurl insults toward the complainant, allegedly calling her, "Dutty nasty stinking gal. Dutty Riverton gal."

The complainant allegedly told Reid, "Come nyam me," while crossing the road, walking away from the accused. It is alleged that Reid followed the complainant and attacked her, hitting and punching her in her face.

When the matter was mentioned on Wednesday before Senior Parish Judge Paula Blake-Powell, the complainant did not attend the proceedings.

The matter was then adjourned until September 20 for the female vendor's attendance.
