Teen facing prison for one bullet
A 19-year-old is facing prison time after pleading guilty to having one round of illegal ammunition in his possession.
Tyreek Thompson is to be sentenced on September 29 for unlawful possession of ammunition, after police conducting a targeted raid in Cockburn Gardens, St Andrew, found the illegal round under his mattress.
"I left from living with my father because of the abuse and went to live at the house my grandfather had. Some bad man did a live deh before and dem lef, so me did look 'round the house and me find it," Thompson shared with the court.
The Government last year passed new law to impose mandatory minimum 15-year sentences for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque indicated that she was awaiting the receipt of a psychiatric report to guide her in sentencing the teen.
Thompson is the subject of another matter of a sexual nature currently before court.
He was remanded in custody pending sentencing.
