Woman accused of stealing from babyfather

A Corporate Area man sought the assistance of the police to charge his child's mother for stealing $45,000 he was saving towards purchasing his first motor vehicle.

The allegations were shared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Monday, when the accused Patrina Rowe was arraigned for simple larceny. Rowe, however, took issue with the sums being alleged and explained that she only took money to care for the child she shares with the complainant.

"Your Honour, it's not $45,000. Sometimes me will take up a $1000 or suh, but is not so much money," the woman stressed.

"So how much you think the $1000 here and there would add up to?" Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque quizzed.

"Your Honour, is not so much. Me a tell yuh, a nuh $45,000," Rowe responded.

But prosecutors contend that when Rowe was accosted, she made a statement that was recorded by the police in which she said, "Me use the money fi buy things for the baby weh him nah mine."

Rowe, who was also charged with malicious destruction of property, agreed to attend mediation with the complainant to resolve the matter. They are to return to court on November 9.
