November 01, 2023

Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque has expressed disappointment with the number of matters being brought before the court, in which women have fought each other over men.

"I am sick and tired of women going after other women. I don't like that at all. Women are tearing down each other and I don't like it," the judge stressed.

Her comments came after a complainant shared that she attacked the woman with whom her husband has been staying.

"You don't know what your husband was telling the woman. You don't know if he told her that he is filing for a divorce. You don't know if he told her that she is the one he loves now or that sort of thing. You don't know! I don't like this thing," the senior jurist added.

It was shared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday that Miguel Whylie, the complainant's husband, assaulted her and damaged her watch. It was reported that Whylie owes his wife money and she visited the premises where he was staying with the other woman. An altercation subsequently developed.

"I told her to call me when she was coming. She just pop up at the place and I was upset about it," Whylie explained.

He said the woman with whom he is staying was assisting him in gaining employment overseas.

"She [the other woman] really a help me go away but she [his wife] nuh want the other woman help me and that's why she say she ago charge me [for the assault]," the man told the court.

The complainant said she visited the home and attacked the other woman, causing her to fall and hit her head.

"That's when him rush and drape me and start beat me with broomstick and rake. I have all the pictures in my phone to show the bruising and swelling I get," the complainant explained.

The matter was adjourned until January 30, 2024 when compensation is to be made.
