Child born with clubfoot gets special shoes
Yesterday, Enaka Morrison's mood was quite the opposite compared to when she first visited THE STAR offices last month.
Morrison expressed extreme gratitude and was filled with hope that her 18-month-old son Jazaun Brown will be making his first independent steps soon, after he received a pair of orthopaedic shoes that he needed to start therapy at the Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre.
"Thank you gentle people for helping me to get my son's shoes and to the special young woman who give me the money to buy it. I really appreciate it and I want to thank THE STAR for helping me and my son as well. The newspaper put out the story quick and because of that, mi son going to start his therapy soon. Mi just a try get the $25,000 to pay for the month," Morrison said.
Little Jazaun was born with clubfoot, a deformity in which an infant's foot is turned inward, often so severely that the bottom of the foot faces sideways or even upward. But Morrison could not find the $6,000 that was required to purchase the special shoes. She stated that after her plight was shared in this newspaper on October 25, a Good Samaritan sent her to cash to make the payment.
Although Morrison received the much-needed assistance for her son, she faced dozens of harsh comments from some social media users who accused her of being a scammer. Some even accused her of lying about the number of children she mothered [three]. Morrison said she was crushed by the comments and set to clear the air.
"See it deh, mi get the money and is the shoes it buy. Mi never use it do hair, make-up or nails. Other people reach out to mi and promise and say dem will get back to mi. Some of them never fulfil their promise but I am still hanging on," she said.
"People bash mi a lot under the comment and call mi a lot of names and mi feel a way, honestly. Dem say mi have more than three children but no one knows anything about mi. Dem all say mi is a scammer and mi not scamming a soul because mi don't have much for myself. I would do well with even a room so mi want to know how am I a scammer?" Morrison added.
