St Mary man chops off man's hand during argument

A St Mary man has been taken into police custody, after he allegedly severed a man's hand with a machete during an argument. 

He has been identified as 36-year-old Cleon Williams, otherwise called ‘Gavin’, labourer and mechanic of Hibiscus Avenue in Highgate. 

According to the Port Maria police, about 5:30 p.m. on Monday, October 30, an argument developed between the two men who were at the Highgate town center. 

At some point during the argument, Williams pulled a machete from his vehicle and chased his victim who fell to the ground. 

Williams then proceeded to chop the man on his arm, severing it. The man was assisted to hospital where he was treated.

Williams turned himself into the police on Thursday, November 02, and was charged a day later with attempted murder and assault at common law. 

He is slated to answer the charges in the Richmond Parish court on Wednesday, November 8.
