Police ramp-up efforts in Westmoreland following widespread robberies
Head of the Westmoreland Police Division, Deputy Superintendent Adrian Hamilton, has announced that the police will be ramping-up their efforts to curb widespread robberies across the parish.
The announcement was made during a security meeting called by the Negril Chamber of Commerce and Industry late Sunday evening.
“We have beefed up the personnel within the zone four area, that is Negril and Little London police areas,” Hamilton confirmed, revealing that the heightened series of robberies are particularly taking place along the Grange Hill, Little London and Negril corridors.
Several shareholders in and around the tourist destination have been breathing a sigh of relief. One of them is Dalton Hill, owner of Lighthouse Inn, located on the West End Road.
“I am very much able to sleep better tonight because I have spoken about what should be the solutions and I am very comfortable now,” Hill told The STAR.
Similar sentiments is being expressed by Elaine Bradley-Allen, president of the Negril Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
"I was really heartened by what the police officers had to say. I am.Grateful to hear the community saying they can.now sleep well tonight and that reassured me that this meeting very successful," Bradley Allen said.
"All those deployment of resources, we are committed to continuing and beefing them up. Utilising as much covert activities as we can to the immediacy of treating robberies and criminal activities taking place, especially from now into the Christmas period and beyond,” Deputy Superintendent Hamilton said.
He also confirmed that three men, suspected to be among a syndicate of criminals that have come from other parishes, were intercepted as a part of the enhanced police presence.
