Six accused of stealing $7 million worth of liquor
Six men who are accused of stealing $7 million worth of liquor from a warehouse were offered bail on Monday at their first appearance in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.
Prosecutors contend that between November 20 and 22, the accused, who were employed as forklift operators and warehouse attendants, went into the warehouse belonging to the complainant and packed alcoholic beverages on a trolley.
The items were then transported to the adjoining fence line of distributors Red Stripe, before the men stole the items. The accused, Michael Brown, Javier Gabbidon, Deon Phillip, Kimani Broadber, Delvin Winkle and Donado Bernett were subsequently charged with simple larceny.
Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque offered each man $480,000 bail with at least three sureties, with strict conditions that they report to the police three times weekly and surrender their travel documents. A stop order was imposed at the island's ports and the men were made subjects of a fingerprint order. The matter was adjourned until February 22, 2024 to facilitate file completion.
