Four implicated in alleged imported vehicle scam
The alleged mastermind in a scheme that involves the importation of motor vehicles was offered bail on Wednesday in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.
Christopher Elliot is at the centre of a fraud case, in which it is alleged that he collected $600,000 to import vehicles on complainants' behalf. He was offered bail by Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque in the sum of $650,000 with at least two sureties, with conditions that he surrenders his travel documents and report to the police twice weekly. A stop order was also imposed and he was made the subject of a fingerprint order.
Details of the allegations are that Elliot, who has been in custody since September 15, operates an online car mart, advertising that he is able to import vehicles. He allegedly instructed interested persons to transfer the funds to bank accounts of his co-accused, Amelia Edwards, Sashana Evans and Crystal McKenzie, who sent Elliot the monies received.
Elliot, Edwards, Evans and McKenzie are charged on an indictment for conspiracy to defraud, obtaining money by means of false pretence, receiving stolen property, engaging in a transaction involving criminal property, failing to issue report, non-delivery of goods or service in a contracted date and unlawfully making available data or device for the commission of an offence.
Evans pleaded guilty on a previous occasion and is to be sentenced. Elliot indicated his intention to make restitution and made a first payment of $235,000 in court. The matter was adjourned until March 11, 2024 for mention.
