Man facing firearm charges

A Clarendon man has been charged with shooting with intent following an incident in which police were fired upon on April 24.

Twenty-six-year-old Khalil Thomas, otherwise called 'Kyle', of Top Alston district, Spalding, has also been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony. Reports from the Mandeville police are that about 12:15 p.m., officers were on patrol in the area when they received reports of men in the said area with guns. On arrival at the location, the premises was searched. While conducting the search, men opened gunfire in the direction of the lawmen. The police returned fire. After the shooting subsided, the area was searched and Thomas was found hiding. He was accosted, taken into custody and charged. A court date for him is being finalised.
